Father’s Day is just around the corner and it presents a perfect opportunity to describe one of my favorite experiences shared with my father.  Not surprisingly, it involves whisky. My Dad and I look alike.  My two brothers favor our mother and I became a chip off the old block.  Apart from our looks, however, Dad and I are very different people.  Dad is the quintessential traditional guy: science major (Chemistry), outdoorsy, emotionally reserved, stoic, deliberate. Welcome to the fourth and final installment recounting our incredible buying trip to Scotland.  Our third day in the Highlands was scheduled to be busy and it was hard to imagine things going any better than they had thus far.  But... We opened our day with a 9:30 am visit with George Grant, Director of Sales and sixth-generation in Grant family ownership at Glenfarclas. Prior to our trip, George informed us that his distillery does not ordinarily work with independent bottlers like ours, but he welcomed us to visit anyway....

Legacy

I have just returned home from the funeral of a friend, Jeffrey. Jeffrey was not one of my closest friends; he was more of an associate from my hometown political party – a comrade-in-arms on the local political pitch. But we got to know each other well enough as we volunteered on boards and commissions over time. Jeffrey was too young to leave us behind (I would say late 60’s). I heard he was sick only a few months ago, and now he is gone. Sadly, he was the victim...
