This cask bottling, distilled in May 2001, spent thirteen years maturing in a second fill ex-Oloroso hogshead.  It was bottled at cask strength in August of 2014 at 55.9% ABV.  Cask #102 yielded 329 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Rooibos Tea

Nose: Multi-dimensional with wonderfully integrated notes of baked apple, rich vanilla, coconut oil, warm butter, and typical Arran cereal sweetness

Palate: Delightfully oily entry with cocoa powder up front then a wave of pears, salted caramel apple, ripe apricot and dates all leading to a pleasantly peppery end that transitions beautifully into the finish

Finish: Lingering fruit sweetness and cocoa powder from the palate leads elegantly into a long, drying peppery finish that still presents some of the cereal sweetness from the nose

On the label: An inviting nose that presents rich fruit flavors leads into an unctuous palate with ripe fruits and chocolate before closing with a long peppery finish

Opened in 1995, the only distillery on the beautiful Isle of Arran is a small, independently owned operation that is on its way to producing 500,000 liters of spirit annually.  Distillery manager, James MacTaggart, is dedicated to perfecting his craft and isn't afraid to play around with his core spirit.  He also commutes to Arran from Islay once a week in order to get his work done at the distillery!
