Undisclosed Islay 7, 1st release, 2007 distillate, Bourbon Hogshead - ARCHIVED

$125.00
This cask bottling, distilled in August 2007, spent seven years maturing in a refill ex-Bourbon hogshead.  It was bottled at cask strength in December of 2014 at 56.7% ABV.  Cask #613 yielded 280 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: White tea

Nose: Opens with green banana fruitiness but peat smoke, cracked pepper, and barbecued spare rib notes come in right behind, ashy yet malty will a coastal freshness reminiscent of our dearly departed 6yo Laphroaig

Palate: Silky entry with sweet smoke, damp earth, and sea salt but there's a light fruitiness, too, with black peppercorns freshly cracked over sliced green apples. A wave of coal dust leads the transition into the finish

Finish: Drying bluestone finish with coal dust, sea salt and lingering peat

On the label: Ashy and meaty with a dirty coal dust note, this pungent Islay single malt has a drying finish with sea salt and lingering peat
