Auchroisk 26, Ex-Caroni Cask

$395.00

This is the fourth and final release in our Wood Cut Series.

Distilled at Auchroisk (Michael Jackson suggests pronouncing it “Othroysk”) in August 1996, Cask #4276 will be bottled in August 2022 at 26 years of age. We anticipate the cask yielding between 250-300 bottles at a cask strength in the mid to high 50s.

While the spirit spent its first 21 years resting in a 2nd fill bourbon hogshead the last 5 years of its maturation have been spent in an ex Caroni rum cask! Yes, *that* Caroni! The same Caroni rum distillery that was closed in 2002 and which has become to rum fans what Port Ellen has become to whisky fans! The good news is that beyond imparting a sexy name, the additional Caroni aging has imparted a delicate smoke that accentuates this older whisky’s cereal sweetness.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Nose: Opens with tendrils of cigarette smoke from a 1950s Berlin nightclub then warm honey smeared across wholewheat toast, plump apricots, vanilla custard, freshly baled hay, and Licorice All-Sorts

Palate: Warm and unctuous with gingerbread fresh from the oven, spoonfuls of golden syrup, ripe pears, malt loaf, brown sugar, nutmeg, and clove

Finish: Lingering soft spice, a suggestion of smoke, and just a hint of salt towards the end

On the label: Wood Cut #4
