Our second offering from our friends at Virginia Distillery Co. is upon us. We're following our hugely successful Spanish Oak Sherry release with this delectable STR cask offering.
This single cask bottling of American Single Malt Whisky, distilled in August 2017 at Virginia Distillery Co. in Lovingston, Virginia, spent 5 years maturing in a shaved, toasted, and re-charred (STR) Portugese red wine cask before being removed from wood in April 2023. Cask #2056 was bottled in September 2023 and yielded 264 bottles at a cask strength of 57.9% ABV.
Our tasting notes are as follows:
Color: Sanguine Copper
Nose: Warming and inviting with butter shortbread, brown sugar, and milk chocolate then ripe red berries drizzled with honey and dried orange peels.
Palate: Opens on sweet cereal (some say Honey Nut Cheerios™) followed by chocolate covered cherries, gingerbread fresh from the oven, and warm vanilla custard.
Finish: Long and drying with fresh ginger, drying oak, and walnut skins.
