We're proud to introduce the Nation to Portland, Oregon’s Westward Distillery who had the honor of taking the #5 spot in Whisky Advocate's Top 20 best whiskies of 2022 list with their cask strength offering.
This single cask bottling of American Single Malt Whisky, distilled in June 2016 at Westward Distillery in Portland, Oregon, spent 6 years maturing in a new charred oak cask before being removed from wood in March 2023. Cask #423 was bottled in September 2023 and yielded 218 bottles at a cask strength of 60.1% ABV.
Our tasting notes are as follows:
Color: Copper
Nose: Opens on chocolate covered orange peels before developing enticing notes of orange blossom honey and marmalade on warm wholewheat toast, hints of fresh meadow flowers around the edges.
Palate: Warm spices to begin (Garam masala roasted Spanish peanuts, anyone!?) then shaved dark chocolate over Tiramisu, malty notes build on the palate across multiple sips.
Finish: A wonderfully balanced dram with cocoa powder, charred oak, and lingering orange blossom on the finish
