This cask bottling, distilled in February 2010, spent nine years maturing in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel. It was bottled at cask strength in August of 2019 at 56.3% ABV. Cask #88 yielded 215 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Yellow Chartreuse

Nose: Sea salt sprinkled over baked orchard fruits, s’mores sans the chocolate, golden fields of barley growing on the Scottish coast, tinned fruit, crushed pink peppercorns, and hints of wild flowers in the distance. After the first sip we notice suggestions of well trodden mountain trails, dried autumn leaves, and fresh water springs.

Palate: Rich and unctuous with fresh malted barley, strawberry jam drizzled over warm croissants, dried apples and plums, and a lovely salty presence that’s never far away. There are rich warm spice and caramel notes delivered by the oak that beautifully frame the spirit character.

Finish: Interminable with baked apples, blood orange zest, ground pepper, then a long and lasting round of dark cocoa powder

On the label: Reminiscent of the distillery's eighteen year old this offering is rich and malty, buttery and fruity, with a discernible coastal salinity that serves to remind the drinker of its island genesis.

Opened in 1995, Arran distillery, situated on the north end of the beautiful Isle of Arran, now has a sister distillery on the south end of the isle named Lagg distillery. Arran distillery, meanwhile, remains a small, independently owned operation that produces approximately 500,000 liters of spirit annually but has the capacity to produce up to 1.2 million liters. Distillery manager, James MacTaggart, is dedicated to perfecting his craft and isn't afraid to play around with his core spirit.  He also commutes to Arran from Islay once a week in order to get his work done at the distillery!
