BenRiach 17, Peated, Bourbon Cask - ARCHIVED
$145.00
Our tasting notes are as follows:
Color: Canola oil
Nose: A tale of two noses -- early sweet peat reek and ripe fruits (bananas, maraschino cherries) with vanilla and then later dirty peat (screeching tires), smoke from charred sticks, underlying Tabasco sauce and unripe fruits (bananas, apples) with white tea and white pepper
Palate: An oily texture delivers soft and supple bananas foster and barbecued apricots before drying to reveal construction sites (heavy machinery, diesel, engine oil, and wet cement), thick smoke, dirty peat and charred oak
Finish: Moderate to long with high cocoa content dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee beans, and freshly cracked black pepper
On the label: Opens on sweet peat and ripe fruits such as bananas and cherries before unearthing dirty peat, charred oak, and even a touch of hot sauce
Located just a hop, skip, and a jump from the town of Elgin in the Speyside whisky region, BenRiach distillery was built in 1898. Owned by The BenRiach Distillery Company Ltd since 2004 the distillery employs a rare four wash system when steeping the mash (soaking the barley to extract the sugars, which are fermentable). Known for their peated spirit as much as their unpeated, we're very pleased to offer this older single cask of peated BenRiach.
