LDI Light Whiskey 13, Refill Barrel - ARCHIVED

This cask bottling, distilled in November 2000, spent thirteen years in a refill American oak barrel.  It was bottled at cask strength in August of 2014 at 55.8% ABV. Cask #2399 yielded 87 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Pale green tea

Nose: Wonderfully balanced with sweet (marshmallow and vanilla cream soda), spicy (cinnamon stick and cigar wrapper), and nutty (shaved almonds) then hints of rosewater and sandalwood

Palate: Delightfully oily and mouthcoating with the sweetness of reduced honey then Chinese rice candies and pronounced notes of orange essential oils with dry spice notes alongside -- more pronounced rosewater

Finish: Long and luxuriant with naval orange, vanilla, and brown spices

On the label: Sweet and spicy with abundant oil this luxuriant whisky is a perfect late summer/early fall dram

Founded in 1847, Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana (also known as LDI or MGP of Indiana) is one of America's powerhouse distilleries producing spirit for multiple well-known brands. While working on the 2014 Whisky Jewbilee festival blend we happened upon a very special single cask of light whiskey (or American grain whiskey) from this distillery. Inspired by this cask we decided to give the distillers of Lawrenceburg their fair due and bottled it as an LDI product. To our knowledge, no other independent bottler has ever released a single cask of American light whiskey at natural cask strength.
