This cask bottling, distilled in June 2006, spent eight and a half years in a first fill bourbon barrel and was then finished for eleven months in a first fill bourbon octave from our partners at Few Spirits.  It was then bottled at cask strength in September of 2016 at 68.3% ABV!! Cask # 287 yielded 76 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Greenish gold

Nose: Herbaceous, heavy buckwheat honey, applesauce, chocolate covered orange peels, spun sugar, melted milky caramels, and vanilla bean

Palate: Unctuous, with notes of cola syrup, chocolate covered cherries, orange spice drops, quite peppery, cumin, cinnamon and nutmeg transitioning into the finish

Finish: Becoming drier with warm spice (garam masala and cumin) and wood char

On the label: Unctuous and mouthing coating while delivering an herbaceous honied sweetness with candied orange peels, abundant spice, and wood char

Founded in 1847, Midwest Grain Products Indiana (also known as MGP, previously known as Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana, or LDI) is one of America's powerhouse distilleries producing spirit for multiple well-known brands. To our knowledge, no other independent bottler has ever released whiskey produced at MGP/LDI, and displayed the distillery name as the source of the whiskey.
