MGP Rye Whisky 8yo - ARCHIVED

$95.00

This cask bottling, distilled in January 2007, spent eight years in a new charred American oak barrel.  It was bottled at cask strength in August of 2015 at 60.9% ABV. Cask #52 yielded 131 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Deep Bronze

Nose: Rich and warming with dark roast coffee beans, waxy cherry lips candies, salted licorice nibs, and charred dill

Palate:  Malted milk balls, Turkish Delight, orange spiced gum drops, and slight pepperiness

(Not something we normally do but when experimenting with water the palate revealed additional layers so here are our tasting notes with the addition of three drops of water:

Palate with water: Salty, spicy, and chewy with cocoa powder, cola syrup, caramel

Finish: Keeps coming in waves with espresso, burnt rye toast, dark cherry, raspberry chews, and lingering pepperiness

On the label: Rich and warm nose with coffee beans and salted licorice, sweet malt and orange spice palate, then long and lingering notes of espresso and dark cherry

Founded in 1847, Midwest Grain Products Indiana (also known as MGP, previously known as Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana, or LDI) is one of America's powerhouse distilleries producing spirit for multiple well-known brands. To our knowledge, no other independent bottler has ever released whiskey produced at MGP/LDI, and displayed the distillery name as the source of the whiskey.
