Undisclosed Islay 6, 4th release, 2009 distillate, PX Barrique - ARCHIVED

$125.00
This cask bottling, distilled in May 2009, spent six years maturing in a 2nd fill ex-PX Sherry Barrique - a very unusual cask size for sherry.  It was bottled at cask strength in December of 2015 at 57.9% ABV.  Cask #613-4 yielded 276 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Light amber with magenta flecks

Nose: Immediately peppery but then notes of milk chocolate with almonds and warm malty peated barley overtake, there’s a suggestion of soy sauce sprinkled over warm noodles hanging around the edges of the glass

Palate: Oily and spicy with abundant peat, waves of melted milk chocolate give way to warmed prunes, tart black plums, and sea salt

Finish: Long, longer, longest with abundant pepper, candied ginger, more warmed prunes, and lingering salt

On the label: This winter warmer is everything you want from an Islay whisky: peaty and peppery with deep smoke, abundant dark fruits, and umami
