Westland 2, Oloroso Sherry Barrel - ARCHIVED

$75.00
This cask bottling of peated American single malt whiskey, distilled in June 2012 and bottled in October 2014, was matured in a 1st fill Oloroso barrel. It was bottled at a natural cask strength of 60% ABV. Cask 284 yielded 204 bottles.

Our tasting notes are as follows:

Color: Motor oil

Nose: Peeling back a thick layer of warming peat (redolent of southern barbecue) reveals overripe bananas in brown sugar, fairground kettle corn, burnt caramel over roasted peanuts, and fried pickles

Palate: Oily entry leads to a honeyed and leathery palate with toffee apples, cola syrup, and a continuation of the burnt caramel note from the nose

Finish: While the smoke lingers on there remain notes of ash, pine, and browned butter

On the label: Unrelenting peat reek opening but with fairground kettle corn and southern barbecue behind. Honeyed, leathery palate with pine and ash on the finish.
