Balcones is surely producing robust, bold spirits, and this cask surely falls within that category. After 6 years under the hot Waco TX sun this malt has become self-assured and confident with pronounced oak spice and a hefty smoky sweetness.

The rich notes of toffee apples, smoked molasses, and candied ginger are never far away. Sure this whopper of a whisky is 67% but it's delivering 100% full-on flavor. Add some water to tease our notes of chocolate and baked apples. This is a whisky that keeps on giving.

Tasting Notes

NOSE: A salve for the soul with smoked molasses, toffee apples, chocolate covered orange peels, salted mixed nuts, candied ginger, baked apples with a generous dusting of cinnamon, campfire smoke, lit cigars

PALATE: Oak and peat smoke to the fore with drying cigar ash but with subsequent sips the toffee and smoked molasses return, as do apple skins, cherry ChapStick, and warm grain

FINISH: Long and warming with oak spice, warm grain, and lingering baked apples and cinnamon
