Our Balmenach 12 Year Old, from a 1st Fill Bourbon Barrel, is rich and fruity with that classic weighty Balmenach spirit. The Bourbon barrel maturation adds a soft, buttery quality to the mouthfeel, too. A truly rewarding dram!

You say you've not heard of the Balmenach distillery? That would make sense as they don't really have an official bottling of their own. The vast majority of their single malt is destined for blends such as Hankey Bannister, Johnnie Walker, and others. 

Balmenach does have a serious following of its own among whisky enthusiasts as the distillery is one of around 20 (or so) distilleries that use Wormtub condensers during production which makes for a rich, heavy, and viscous style of spirit. Tasting Notes

NOSE: A complex, fully integrated nose that leads with sweet, rich malt up front followed by notes of bright Granny Smith apples, zesty orange peels, delicate oak spice.

PALATE: A hefty, weighty palate with more malt and more orange peel but with additional notes of oatcakes, Honey Grahams, toasted Macadamia nuts, and a touch of vanilla bean.

FINISH: Moderate to long with a focus on the savory elements, still malty.
